Buchanan's Birthplace

James Buchanan, born April 23, 1791, was the 15th President of the United States. He had begun studying the U.S. Government in-depth when he was 25, and this led to his presidency. The only Pennsylvanian to become #POTUS, his family owned a trading post, Stony Batter, on this location. It served immigrants traveling west, frontiersman, waggoners, and other travelers. His father was a Scots-Irish immigrant whose name he inherited.
His birthplace is now a Pennsylvania State Park not far away from where I live. Robby and I, after a weekend camping trip in Cowan's Gap, saw signs for it and decided it would be a good weekend afternoon activity. While he didn't end up coming with me today, I wished he would have. The park was deserted because of the gloomy weather and holiday weekend, so walking into the woods alone seemed like an omnious decision. Maybe next time -- the trails and stream going through the park were certainly inviting. This would make a lovely spring or summer picnicing spot.
Also, I was recently in a car accident (two weeks ago on this upcoming Tuesday). So, I took the opportunity to snap a few pictures of my new car -- a name is still being decided for him, but maybe James Buchanan might have to be in the running since this was his first of many adventures.
I hope you're enjoying the holidays! Christmas included a lot of driving, but overall, a lot of quality time with family and loved ones.
