Colors for Your Crib

Inspired by the lovely ladies at A Beautiful Mess, and the fact that Robby and I have been dedicating a good portion of our time house-hunting, I decided to take myself (and later Robby) on a fun little excursion to Lowe's. It ended up being a pretty cool activity that was totally FREE and super interesting.

So how do you choose your home's color story? It's rather simple, actually.

When you go to Lowe's or Home Depot (or anywhere similar), stand in front of the paint swatches for a minute or two and think about each of your spaces. In your "Better Homes & Gardens" house, what colors do you see? What does your furniture look like? What color is the carpet or your statement rug & pillows? Do you have a particular piece of art you want to build a room around? What is the overall feeling you want yourself and others to have when they're in it?

These are questions that were fun to answer, and Robby and I actually leaned toward opposite colors. I chose the brights and neutrals while he chose the darker colors to maintain a clean appearance. There is nothing wrong with either of these, but this is why I think we work so well together. We're opposites in a lot of ways, and it forces both of us to see from the other's perspective. Considering that any house we get will more than likely need some work, and will be small, we'll probably have a great opportunity to mix our preferences.

Either way, this turned out to be a fun little couple's exercise. If you're looking to remodel your home, buy one that needs some TLC, or just want something fun to do, go and do!
