How to DIY Your Wedding, Part 2
Keeping my promise, this is installment #2 of how to DIY your wedding. This time, I'm focusing on our wedding favors.
Depending on what kind of favors you go with, it can get pretty expensive. Because our wedding was in the summer, we played around with giving out small jars of honey or homemade jam/jelly. But, when it came down to it (and as overplayed as it is), my heart was set on S'mores. They were just too cute and perfect, and considering that Robby and I have always been big fans of the summer bonfire, it just seemed to fit.
My mom, being the absolute creative genius that she is, decided to take the S'mores idea to the next level. She purchased chocolate molds at Michael's and about 15 bags of Meiji's Chocoshrooms (see here), and then assembled the S'mores like normal. Except she used green milk chocolate melts, poured them into the grass molds, and then combined them all together to look like this:

The one pictured above, you can see the grass chocolate mold in the front. The one to the left was at my mom's seat because she saw it was without grass (and of course that's the one the photographer got!).
But regardless, you can see how they came out. We purchased a lot of boxes of the snack pack honey graham crackers (enough for 200 people - obviously your box # will vary), and we used a whole Hershey bar per favor. We also got the huge marshmallows so you could put one in and not worry about the smaller ones falling over, or making the crackers lop-sided. My mom is the equivalent of Martha Stewart, I swear. She thought of everything.
When it came to assembling them, it was line-style. Britney (my Maid of Honor) or Robby would unwrap the graham crackers and Hershey bars, and assemble them with the marshmallows. Then they would go to my mom, who would have the melted chocolate, the mushrooms, and the grass molds on deck. She would then use the melted chocolate to attach the mushrooms and grass molds to the front of the graham crackers. After they sat in the freezer for 2-5 minutes, I placed them in the plastic bags (can be purchased at any party or craft store), and tied the bags shut with our "S'more love for later" tags.
The tags were simple: I used the label template on Word, used free downloaded fonts from Pinterest (LillyBelle and Pablo), and then just made them. We bought a label cutter from Michael's (again, be saving those coupons) in order to get that shape.
It took us about a day to put together a little over 200 favors, but all-in-all, not bad. Unfortunately, I can't break down how much we spent on just favors because I don't have the numbers of boxes of grahams and chocolate bars we purchased, or how much the label punch, gift bags and string cost. However, I'm fairly certain we spent well under $150 all in all. That's less than $1 a favor! And they turned out to be one of my favorite parts.
Honestly, the whole wedding turned out to be stunning. I was so proud of all of it, how everything turned out. But seriously, the S'mores were probably one of my favorites. Yeah, a lot of people do S'mores as favors nowadays, but no one's done them like we have ;)
My next post will be how to save money on flowers.
