2022 Reading List

With 2021's end closely approaching, it's another favorite time of the year for me: finalizing my 2022 Reading List and goals! But first, let's recap 2021.

I set my reading goal at 40 books that I increased to 46 during the year because of children's books and DNF's. I will finish the year with 63 or 64 books completed (depending on if I get my book club book finished before the 31st, lol). This has been a steady improvement from 2019, when I consider myself to have gotten back into reading. My total number of books read that year was 21 (with the original goal of 16). My goal in 2020 was 36 books, and I ended up reading 42. A goal I did not meet in 2021 was reading all of Jane Austen's books. I got through two, got stuck on Mansfield Park, and didn't move on to another of her books instead. I would at least like to read Emma or Persuasion in 2022, and then maybe we'll go from there. I also said I would aim to read a bit more fiction in 2021 since 2020 was memoir/biography and nonfiction heavy. While I still read more nonfiction than not, my ratio was about 50/50 as opposed to previous years where it was more of a 60/40 or 70/30 situation. You should read what you love, but I've reminded myself that it's a good thing to switch up genres. Especially if you find yourself in a reading slump.

While I could be super ambitious and pick a reading goal like 75 or 100 books for next year, I think I'm going to keep it semi-modest again and set a goal for 50 books in 2022. It's an increase from 2021, but still a number I won't feel too overwhelmed with. Within that, I think I'd like to explore more fantasy (even though you won't really see that in the below sections) and more horrors/thrillers. I want to branch out some but also feel free to fall back on those comfort genres I know I'll enjoy.

I'll continue posting reviews here, which will also be on my GoodReads profile. If you're on TikTok, give me a follow! I've started a #booktok account that I'd like to really grow and build a community on. I have an Amazon Wishlist dedicated to books as well, and am always open for doing a book swap and/or book annotations (send me a book you'd like annotated, and I'll do the same)! Lastly, the "Don't Overthink It" Reading Challenge is from Modern Mrs. Darcy, where I got my 2021 Community Reading Challenge. Here's to reading more in 2022!
